??The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is seeking $3,600,000 in funding to improve the ADA accessibility and safety of the historic St. Charles Streetcar Line as part of the agency's commitment to building an equitable, efficient, and reliable transit system for all New Orleans residents and visitors. To better accommodate passengers with limited mobility, including those who use wheelchairs and walkers, the funding will be used to retrofit the RTA streetcar fleet with wheelchair lifts, to improve safety along the route and to bring streetcar stops in compliance with ADA standards.

?Four additional Riverfront streetcars will be converted to replicas of the Historic Perley A. Thomas Streetcars which?requires1200-man hours per streetcar. The cars will be disassembled, repaired, and painted inside and out to match the Perley A. Thomas cars. Riders will also experience a smoother ride due to the cars improved propulsion system?which is?more in line with light rail?on?our other streetcar routes.???
