ISSUE/BACKGROUND:
body
The arcade wall was restored as part of the Canal Street Ferry Terminal project that was completed in 2022. Since then, staff has been collaborating with Ashe' and other nonprofits to install a mural on this wall that is reflective of the significance of the river and culture of New Orleans. The 2025 Superbowl has presented an opportunity for the city to install murals throughout the city that honor the people, culture and commerce. Ashe' has been a partner of the RTA since 2021 when we introduced the Art on the Bus initiative, one of which honors two freedom riders, Jerome Smith and Dodie Smith Simmons.

DISCUSSION:
Staff has been successful in securing $150,000 in donations from the Arts Council of New Orleans (ANO) and Greater New Orleans Inc (GNO Inc), that will go directly to the artist or Ashe' as payment for the mural. The RTA will need to contribute not to exceed the amount of $25,000. The lead artists on this project are Ayo Scott, Jessica Strahan, Marcus and Ojo Akinlana and Ayodele Owolabi. This artwork will be installed in two phases to ensure that what is published by Superbowl is of the quality that we all can be proud of.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The total cost of this donation is $150,000. The agency will be contributing $25,000 for a total project cost of $175,000. The funds for this project will come out of the CEO's budget.
NEXT STEPS:
Once the Board approves the CEO will complete negotiations and a...
