To authorize the Chief Executive Officer to award a contract in the amount of $146,490 to Motorola Solutions, Inc. for the purchase of 30 APX 6000 radios.

ISSUE/BACKGROUND:

The agency has recently completed a handheld radio inventory and evaluation; it has been determined that the agency has an immediate need to procure 30 radios. The agency currently has 130 portable Motorola radios and is working towards a target goal of 175 radios. 56 of our radios are no longer supported by Motorola, parts are no longer available as they have reached their end of life. The agency will continue to work on funding for an additional 70 radios at a future date.

DISCUSSION:
These radios would meet the immediate need of operations radios. Our handheld XTS 2500 radios have reached an end-of-life point where parts are no longer available. As agency radios have started to fail, there is a need to replace some radios that are no longer working and are no longer repairable. These 30 Radios will help meet the agency's immediate operational needs. The agency expects to get 10 years of useful life out of these radios. It will bring the agency to 160 (91%) of the immediate radio need. The agency will work on funding an additional 70 radios for next year that will replace the 56 XTS radios and bring our total count to 175.
This procurement will utilize Louisiana state contract #4400022750.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The agency has budgeted local funds of $148,000 for handheld radios; the estimated cost for 30 radios is $146,490. The local budget code is 1294399.8690.011.
NEXT STEPS:
When approved to proceed, the team will finalize the procurement of the radios.
